- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. Salt
- 2/3 cup shortening

- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg

- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp. vinegar
- 2 eggs

- Mix first four ingredients. Reserve
1/2 cup of this mixture for topping. Add next three ingredients.
Add vinegar to milk and let sit a few minutes.
Add eggs to milk. Mix all ingredients except reserved 1/2 cup of topping.
Put in two 8" greased cake pans.
Sprinkle topping over cakes.
Bake at 375° for
25-30 minutes until inserted toothpick comes out clean.
